RPWorlds: New Game: Vikings

Welcome to Midgard. Midgard is a semi-realistic RPG game about the sea faring Vikings with fantasy elements woven into the core of the story. This is an adult RPG and absolutely no one under 18 is permitted to join AND we recommend you be 21+. Additionally the pages on this website may include content that is not suitable for children. Please leave now if you are under 18 or offended by frank violence or sexual content. We use the World of Darkness system called Dark Ages and while you don't need extensive knowledge of the system, you must download the free pdf and submit a character sheet.

 

Please read through this site carefully. We don't have many pages, but they are important. Be sure to look at the forum for important information and read through our  House Rules for each game before you make a sheet. This RPG has a 24/7 chat room but it is not moderated all the time however all channels are recorded.

 

Core and Supplemental books include:

  • Dark Ages: Basic Rules (Non-Vampire*)
  • Dark Ages: Fae
  • Dark Ages: Werewolf
  • Dark Ages: Wolves of the Sea*
  • Spoils of War*

 

* We have elected to remove Vampire from our chronicle.

We do not micro-manage story lines or characters, we have all had experiences with games where storytellers try to control every aspect of game play and we do not want to do that here. We aren't story police or rule dictators. We are just here to collaborate on a saga with some basic rules (although the ones we have ARE important!) and and have fun doing it. If you want a game that is hack and slash, or you need extensive input on your story lines, this isn't the game for you.

 

This is a chronicle that involves one of the most brutal periods in history. The Vikings burned, conquered, killed and savagely hurt many. They bought and sold slaves, and engaged in fierce tactics that made them a feared people. They were also leaders in trade, and commerce, had strong families and fiercely protected their heritage and religion. This RPG explores all of these themes and more and so we warn all players that  these harsh themes may not be suitable for everyone.

A Note on Characters

Although we review sheets to be sure characters fit into the story, we don't excessively micro-manage your character. However with that in mind, we are aware that certain character types and backgrounds don't fit into historical backgrounds. If you have an idea and you want to flesh it out before submitting it, please e-mail Storyteller (at) rpworlds.net and we'll give you some input. Additionally, you can post a message on the forum or join the chat as a guest.

 

Here are some ideas to work with as you begin.

  • Keep things simple to start: Get to know what's going on
  • Do create characters that fit in the time period
  • Do create characters that you will enjoy
  • Do create characters that have some interesting background information and story
  • Do create characters that will understand they are ruled by a King and are subject to Viking laws.
  • Do ask when you are in doubt about a character concept that will fit here.

The goal is to have fun. Keep that first in mind when you make your character.

We are using the Dark Ages Source book from White Wolf. It is FREE from White Wolf and RPG NOW and can be found here. Additionally we are using Wolves of the Sea as source material for the Viking Saga and for Storytelling purposes. We have tried to consolidate as much information as we can on these pages, but it is strongly recommended that you download the Wolves of War PDF from RPG NOW.

 

If you want to play a supernatural,  only Dark Ages: Mage is allowed right now. And you must own that core book.
